Narrative

"Joseph moved to Cape Traverse in 1918. He purchased a farm from Cptn. Arthur Irving on Lot 28, (In 1799, P.E.I. was devided into Lots). This farm had a large race track at the time of pruchase.
Lot 28 was settled by the French before the Island became a British province in 1763. The proprietor brought settlers to this Lot immediately after obtaining a grant in 1769. The Lot continued to make great progress. At the time Cape Traverse was one of the very best and wealthiest townships on the Island.
The population in 1861 was 1,470. This was partly due to the iceboats coming from New Brunswick. Cape Traverse had a large Hotel especially for travelers to and from the main land. The first cable from the main land came ashore in Cape Traverse.
"John was born in South Melville, P.E.I., Canada. He grew up on the farm and finally married Jane Brown, a school teacher who had come to Hunter River to teach school. He farmed the original homestead. Later he purchased a large race track in Cape Traverse which he mad over into a beautiful farm. He was very quiet with a kindly disposition. He also became a practical veterinary for himself and friends."
