"Murdock Cutcliffe was a man of varied interests. Born in South Melville, Prince Edward Island, in 1874, just one year after the Crown Colony became a memeber of teh Canadian Confederation. He later moved to Sackville, New Brunswick, which also only recently had become a Canadian Province. From Sackville, and while still a very young man, Murdock moved to Amherst, where he worked as a machinist making shells for the Robb Engineering Company. He attained the position of Manager. Still evidencing this varied capabilities, in 1920 he again moved - - this time to Hunter River where he became a partner in the Cutcliffe & Cutcliffe General Store. He also found time to devote to the hotel business. Upon Murdock's retirement from the retail and hotel businesses in 1932, he established and managed a successful fox and poultry farm. Ill health finally forced him to sell the fox and poultry farm, but as one would expect from this man of many interests, Murdock Cutcliffe maintained life-long Masonic Lodge affiliations, served as Treasurer on the United Church, and was prominent in all community affairs. Murdock died in 1955, having lived a full and useful life of 81 years.Ó
