" Benjamin Franklin Cutcliffe was born near South Melville, P.E.I., in 1867. At that time, Prince Edward Island was a British Crown Colony, and enjoyed good trade relations with the mother country, England, and with Europe. In 1873, it became part of the Canadian Confederation, and its economy grew. As trade conditions expanded, men like Benjamin Cutcliffe benefited. As a young man, he worked in a grocery store in Breadalbane, gaining retail knowledge. From his grocery position, he relocated in Boston, Massachusetts, becoming employed by a large department store as a linen buyer. During this long, 43 year association with the Jordan March Company, Benjamin made ninety six, (96) trips to Europe - a considerable accompolishment in those pre-aviation days. He married Gertrude Green, there being no children born to them. Benjamin Cutcliffe was prominent in the Masonic Lodge, and all who knew him, regarded him as a trusted, respected and faithful friend. He passed away is 1934 at the age of seventy years. Fureral services were conducted at Mattapan Baptist Church, and he was buried in Milton Cemetery, near Boston, Massachusetts.
