Narrative

Born at the home of his parents, ÒElphinÓ 9 Beatrice Street, Lidcombe. Attended Christian Brothers College Burwood, N.S.W. He was an accomplished athlete. He played Grade cricket for Auburn - Lidcombe Club as a slow spin bowler; he played Grade football for Western Suburbs Rugby League as a winger. He excelled as a foot runner as a sprinter. He and his brother, Des, were members of the local tennis club, where they both net their future spouses. DÕArcy gave many years of his life helping with the financial administration of various Catholic parishes where he lived. For many years he was Church Secretary at Lidcombe, Berala, and Sefton. He did this on a voluntary basis. He spent 40 years with J.R. Love, wholesale grocers famous for their Kinkara Tea and Mothers Choice Flour, as a clerk and finally as Sales Manager. He retired when 75 years old. When married, he and Mary lived at 1 George Street, Lidcombe, where their eldest child, Fred, was born. They rented houses at Third Avenue, Berala and Mount Auburn Road, Berala, and finally they built their hone ÒBoree LogÓ, 1 Moora Street, Chester Hill, where they lived from July 1935, until his death in 1983.
