Narrative

Babe was born at her parents home, ÒElpinÓ, 9 Beatrice Street, Lidcombe, and lived there all of her life. She was educated at Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta, where her mother, Annie Maria Gromley was one of the original pupils. Her uncle, Ted Gromley and her husband, Pat McLaughlin were in partnership in a clothing business, where they used to do Òdoor to doorÓ selling of their products. They acquired a shop, ÒMcLaughlin and GormleyÓ, in Railway Street, Lidcombe, and Babe took an active part in managing the shop, and once a week, going to Sydney to do the buying from the large warehouses. She died very suddenly on 19th October 1957.
