wedlock. There are Vestry books for Braunton - with records of payments to paupers. Where
would I find these? Would there be a bastardy order?  She is the pauper living without James in
1841 with Richard Ackland and his family at Saunton, Richard Ackland's wife was Ann Clark, who
could be Sarah's daughter. Need to check Ann's wedding cert to prove this. She was a widow in the
1851 census and 1861 census- see notes for her daughter in law, Ann Cousins. Can't find her in the
1871 census. A Sarah Clarke b. 1787 died in Barnstaple aged 83 in june qtr 1870 vol 5b p 356.</span></font></div>

<div align="left"><font face="Times New Roman" size="2"><span style="font-size:10pt">The only candidate I have found is James CLARKE,<sup>1</sup> son of Naboth CLARKE (1732-1784) and
Elizabeth STICKLAND ( -1842?), was born on 26 March 1780 in Yarcombe, Devon.<sup>1</sup> However, this
information comes from the IGI and may not be correct.  He was a Labourer of Saunton.</span></font></div>
