"Robert Cutcliffe, eldest son of John Cutcliffe and margaret Burgonyne, was of Damage. He married during his parents' lifetime Susannah, the eldest daughter of John Worth of Luckham, co. Somerset. The marriage settlement is dated 5th January, 12Q. Ann (1713), and both his mother and father were parties to the deed, by which the estates were resettled upon the male issue of the marriage, with remainder, in default of such issue, on Francis Cutcliffe and his male issue. In 1729, Robert Cutcliffe, not having any surviving issue, resettled the estates with ultimate remainder to his uncle, of the half blood, Charles Cutcliffe of Weach, declaring that he did so "from the natural love and affection which he had and bore unto Charles Cutcliffe his uncle, and for the continuing the several monors &c in the name and blood of the Cutcliffes in case there should be a failure of issue male in him the said Robert Cutcliffe and Francis Cutcliffe his brother". Robert Cutcliffe died 1745, and was buried at Ilfracombe. His will is dated 1743. Mrs. Susannah Cutcliffe survived her husband and was buried 1749. On Robert Cutcliffe's death the family estates devolved by virture of the settlement of 1729, on Charles Cutcliffe of Weach."
