Named in the will of his uncle Charles Newell Cutcliffe.

Alternate date of death. Donald Hendon wrote that in the 1841 census Charles Cutcliffe at age 60 was a surgeon living on Boutport Street, Barnstaple with his children Bridget 35, Augusta 30, and Sophia 25 and 4 servants.
Most of the information about the Cutcliffe family in England had been copied from "Account of the Family of Cutcliffe of Damage" by William Richard Drake, F.S.A., 1876: " Charles Cutcliffe of Barnstaple, surgeon, born 1778, died 1843, having married Bridget Pearce of South Molton by whom he had issue."
The oral family history of the Cutcliffe's who migrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1843, states that Richard Cutcliffe and Mary Wellington Hobbs lived with Charles for a short time after their wedding and until Richard completed building his new house in Barnstaple. The Children of Richard and Mary refered to Charles as "Uncle Charles".
